On behalf of the patients, staff, physicians, and Board of Directors of Thomas Health and The Foundation, I would like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank you for your gifts and support. Your generosity allows us to fulfill our mission of providing compassionate and exceptional healthcare to improve the well-being of the communities we serve through Thomas Health.
In our twenty-fifth year, we saw the revision of a mission, vision, and creation of guiding principles that value long-term philanthropy, trust, and transparency and partnering while implementing best practices to advance our passion for healthcare in our community. As the needs of our community grow, so do the opportunities for support. We saw the successful launch of an inaugural employee campaign, several new community event partnerships, and a fundraising drive for the needs of our community’s first special care unit dedicated to our most vulnerable patients — those infants born suffering from Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome.
Thanks to you, we continue to provide direct patient assistance through the GAP Fund and Working Family Fund to assist patients and their families with unexpected and emergent medical costs such as medications or medical travel expenses; the Employee Emergency Relief Fund and continuing education opportunities for our employees so they can continue to grow in their practice and deliver the best possible care to our patients; and funding of capital and equipment needs for sight-saving procedures and cancer treatment.

ABOUT THE FOUNDATION
Vibrant communities are marked by strong institutions. Schools. Commerce. Cultural institutions. And health care systems. The Foundation for Thomas Health raises funds to ensure the continued improvement, accessibility and affordability of health care services for our community. Philanthropy allows us to serve those who cannot afford health care, as well as build local programs and services that may otherwise be impossible for rural communities like those served by Thomas Health.
Contributions received by the Foundation are primarily used to:
- Provide financial assistance to patients and families with medical emergencies
- Expand and improve health care services for the broader community
- Subsidize specific services critical to the quality of life for patients, especially the young and the elderly
- Purchase or construct state-of-the-art medical equipment, technology and facilities

OUR YOUNGEST AND MOST VULNERABLE PATIENTS
NAS SPECIAL CARE UNIT
Through your gifts we touch even the youngest patients. The number of babies being born addicted to a substance is growing exponentially. The Foundation helps take care of these newborns once they leave the hospital by providing infant formula, car seats and cribs but we’d like to do more.

Many Foundation donors, both individual and businesses, have invested in the mission of The Foundation by bestowing a gift that will enrich the lives of others for years to come. An endowment may be created with a minimum of $20,000 that can be paid over a five-year period. The principal dollars donated remain whole and the earnings are used for designated purpose at the wishes of the donor. Thanks to the thoughtful personal estate planning of Ruby Newman-Peck, the Dr. Benjamin Newman Endowment Fund continues to support the educational advancement of laboratory personnel like Beverly Muncy. Beverly was able to participate in continuing education to learn the latest information leading to implementing best practices that will continue to benefit patients at Thomas Health for years to come.

It was this desire that Ruby Newman-Peck had in knowing that both she and Dr. Newman’s generosity would live by continuing to help others. Ruby served on the Foundation’s Board of Directors and following the passing of her husband, Dr. Benjamin Newman, MD, the first Pathologist at Thomas Memorial Hospital, she established an endowment in January 1994 in his name to provide educational assistance for clinical laboratory personnel.
